Ex-Chief of Air Staff Sadique Abubakar emerges Bauchi APC gov candidate
The immediate past Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Abubakar Sadique, has been declared the winner of the All Progressives Congress governorship primary in Bauchi State.
Sadique who is also Nigeria’s Ambassador to the Benin Republic polled 370 votes to beat six other aspirants at the primary election which was held at the Zaranda Hotel from Thursday evening to Friday morning.
Current Senator representing Bauchi Central, Haliru Jika, came second with 278 while a former Commissioner of Finance in Bauchi State and Philanthropist, Nura Manu Soro, came third with 269 votes.
Other aspirants are a former Executive Chairman, Tertiary Education Trust Fund, Dr. Musa Babayo, with 70 votes; a former Member, House of Representatives representing Azare Federal Constituency, Faruk Mustapha, got 26; former Secretary to the Bauchi State Government, Mahmood Maijama’a, got 8 votes; while a former Minister of State for Health, Prof. Ali Pate got 0 votes.
Recall that one of the aspirants, Muhammad Al-Amin, withdraw from the contest on Thursday, a few hours before the commencement of the primary.
Chairman of the primary election, Ali Sa’ad Birnin Kudu, who announced the results at about 9:00 am on Friday, said that a total of 1,028 delegates were accredited while the total votes cast were 1,021.
Birnin-Kudu, a former Deputy Governor of Jigawa State, while declaring the results said: “Air Marshal Abubakar Saddique, having scored the highest number of votes is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected.”
